Parl. speaker calls for closer parliamentary coop. with Russia's Duma

TEHRAN, Nov. 04 (MNA) – Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani has expressed his happiness with the level of Iran-Russia relations, saying that the two countries closely consult with each other on various international and regional issues.

Ali Larijani made the remarks in a meeting with a visiting Russian Parliamentary delegation headed by the Chairman of the Russian State Duma Committee for Security and Anti-Corruption  Vasili Ivanovich Piskarev in Tehran on Sunday.

“Iran-Russia relations are acceptable, and the two countries have very close consultations on various international and regional issues,” Larijani noted.

Larijani praised Russia’s laws and experiences in various fields of countering cyber attacks, fight against narcotics and terrorism, calling for close cooperation between the two countries legislative bodies to exchange experiences and views on those issues.

“Iran and Russia face US cybercrime” the Iranian Parliament speaker said, adding that the two countries need to cooperate more on legislative issues.

He said that Iran has also good experiences and acceptable legislation in the field of combating narcotics that can be helpful to Russia.

Larijani further hailed the two countries’ security cooperation on terrorism.

Vasili Ivanovich Piskarev, for his part, expressed his happiness with the visit to Iran, saying “exchange of visits by the two countries' officials makes it possible for us to implement our plans, so it is very necessary for the two parliaments and specialized committees to expand cooperation.”

The Russian legislator further said that Russia is interested in expanding cooperation with Iran on issues such as fighting terrorism and extremism, combating drug trafficking and cyber security.
